Plant and Animal Life:
The forests consist mainly of fir, spruce, sycamore, maple, beech and oak. Maramures also shelters several groves of sweet chestnut trees.
Several endemic plants can be seen on the high grasslands of the Rodna Mountains. They include Campanula carpatica, Centaurea carpatica, Silene acaulis (the Moss Campion or Cushion Pink), and the campion, Lychnis nivalis.
The wildlife consists of over 30 species of mammals. We name just a few: bear, stag, roe deer, wild boar, lynx, fox, hare, and the chamois that was repopulated in the Rodna mountains.
